Red Hot Chili Peppers é uma banda de Rock dos Estados Unidos formada em Los Angeles, Califórnia, em 1983.
A banda, vencedora de seis Grammys, é composta por quatro membros: o vocalista Anthony Kiedis, o baixista Michael "Flea" Balzary, o baterista Chad Smith e o guitarrista Josh Klinghoffer, que está atualmente substituindo John Frusciante.
A explicação para o nome Red Hot Chili Peppers vem de um improviso de Anthony Kiedis que conta: "Eu estava caminhando em Hollywood Hills e vi esse nome piscando num arbusto psicodélico" (o arbusto era em formato de pimenta), mas essa história parece muito mais uma lenda ou piada de Anthony, do que a verdadeira história. O que parece ser mais próximo da realidade é que eles adoravam comida mexicana com bastante pimenta (chili), Flea era fã da banda de apoio de Louis Armstrong "Red Hot Peppers" e Anthony Kiedis não poderia esquecer o nome da banda que tocou num pub em Londres, a "Chili Willy and the Red Hot Peppers".
Assistindo a várias mudanças e a problemas pessoais de membros, o estilo da banda é variado, conseguindo juntar elementos do funk tradicional com elementos de outros gêneros como punk rock e rock psicodélico.
Os Chili Peppers eram garotos que descobriram um som diferente, fora do que havia na época. Mas por trás de tantas polêmicas e de um estilo extravagante há uma amizade inabalável. O grupo passou pela morte de um dos integrantes por overdose de heroína (Hillel Slovak), e testemunho do quase declínio total de outro (John Frusciante). Após a recuperação, com a "nova" formação, o Red Hot Chili Peppers abriu novas trilhas e atingiu seu maior sucesso, ultrapassando muitos grupos de rock atuais.
